The Gov­ern­ments of the Unit­ed States and Cana­da on Wednes­day com­mem­o­rat­ed Haiti Na­tion­al Day, ex­tend­ing “heart­felt best wish­es to Haiti and its peo­ple” on the 221st an­niver­sary of the French-speak­ing Caribbean coun­try’s in­de­pen­dence.

While T&T’s Cen­tral Bank is get­ting ready to roll out a pi­lot pro­gramme in 2025 for the Uni­fied Pay­ments In­ter­face (UPI) re­al time pay­ment sys­tem de­vel­oped in In­dia, there could be se­cu­ri­ty risks in­volved in launch­ing this in­no­v­a­tive pay­ment sys­tem.

Dur­ing a news con­fer­ence on Mon­day morn­ing, called to ex­plain the procla­ma­tion of a State of Emer­gency (SoE) in T&T, act­ing At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Stu­art Young linked the shoot­ing death on Sat­ur­day af­ter­noon of Trevor Williams, who has been de­scribed as the body­guard of a pri­or­i­ty of­fend­er, to the ex­e­cu­tion-style killing of five men at Priz­gar Lands, Laven­tille, on Sun­day night.
